Carp have been popular as an ornamental fish, such as the various goldfish breeds and the domesticated common carp variety known as koi. However, Carp are gaining in popularity by anglers and transitioning from being considered a trash fish to a fish sought out for the enjoyment and challenge of catching. Common baits for Carp include corn, worms, crayfish, liver and homemade dough balls, to name just a few. When fishing for carp you must remain patient as they often just come up and nibble on the bait before finally picking it up. While mouthing the bait, if they feel any resistance from the bait, they will spit it out, likely before any chance of getting a hook set. Keep your line slack and wait for the line to begin moving before tightening the line and setting the hook... then get ready for a ride!
